Distinguished author and journalist George Plimpton might seem like a strange choice for a video game spokesperson, but given that Mattel was trying to sell its system as the “smart" alternative to clunky ol’ Atari, it worked. By the time this commercial aired in 1982, Plimpton was well-known by kids across the land for his Intellivision advocacy… which is why it’s fitting that Henry Thomas, riding his wave of E.T. fame (really, what kid didn’t want to be Henry Thomas once they’d seen E.T.?) and what looks like a Huffy into commercial work, calls his elder costar “Mr. Intellivision."
