At least I didn’t make Delgo.
Alas, Poor Delgo.
One of the reasons Peter Jackson’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy was possible is because of the warm-up work WETA did on the HERCULES and XENA series. Fathom’s the same way, producing animation for broadcast and industrial clients since 1994. They took two years creating a proof-of-concept test, ninety seconds of animation that gave Adler and his team the confidence and the financial muscle to take on the challenge of making a movie completely outside the Hollywood system.
…
Right now, the thing I would encourage you to spend time looking at, particularly if you’re interested in the technological side of animation, is the Digital Dailies. What you’ll see is a group of people all working together to do something that accepted wisdom says they shouldn’t be able to do. Normally, when people talk about independent films, they’re talking about dark, edgy material for adults. DELGO may be an optimistic fable aimed squarely at an all-audiences market, but make no mistake: it’s as risky as anything that unspooled at Sundance this year, if not more so based on the size of the stakes they’re gambling.
And if that risk pays off in the end, then maybe ten years from now, some other group of determined artists will be citing Marc Adler and Jason Maurer and the entire DELGO crew as their inspiration as they follow their own dreams.
The best part, there is no review for Delgo on the Ain’t It Cool Site.
Not to mention an opening day of $125,000. Broken down further? 1,200 theater release= $58 per theater.
Which means it beat Gran Tornino (6 theaters), Doubt (15 theaters), The Reader (8 theaters) and Frost/Nixon (39 theaters) on Friday.
So, it at least has that going for it.
i woke up at 3:30 am because of an alcohol-induced nightmare where i was at a screening for a star wars movie that turned into a buddy comedy where i was han solo and me and luke skywalker drove the general lee through the death star. i stumbled out into my living room to find my computer still on. and this is the first thing i saw.
i’m never going to sleep right ever again.
"Ok, son. You paid your dues with Untraceable. I'll be in this one. I'll help you."
Once upon a time, Buck Howard (John Malkovich) spent his days in the limelight. His mind-boggling feats as a mentalist extraordinaire - not to be confused with those of a mere magician - earned him a marquee act in Vegas and 61 appearances on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. In his own humble opinion, his talents go far beyond simple sleight of hand - he can read minds and hypnotize not just a single soul but an entire room of people! But nowadays, it’s clear to everyone but Buck that his act has lost its luster; he performs in faded community centers and hasn’t sold out a theater in years. Yet, with a hearty handshake and a trademark “I love this town!,” Buck Howard perseveres, confident in his own celebrity, convinced his comeback is imminent. He just needs a new road manager and personal assistant. As it turns out, recent law school drop-out and unemployed, would-be writer Troy Gable (Colin Hanks) needs a job and a purpose. Working for the pompous, has-been mentalist fills the former requirement, but how it satisfies the latter is questionable, especially to his father (Tom Hanks), who still assumes Troy is in law school. Nonetheless, with the aid of a fiery publicist (Emily Blunt) and a bold stroke of fate, Buck surprisingly lands back into the American consciousness, taking Troy along for the ride of his life. As the coveted spotlight again shines on the great Buck Howard, Buck becomes the unlikeliest of teachers as Troy learns a few tricks he couldn’t possibly have picked up in law school.
Merry Christmas.

Cruise on The Hour pt 2.
Oddly, an awesome interview.
"What was it like working with Kubrick? Because Kubrick would call up King at 2 in the morning and ask, ‘do you believe in God!?’ and then hang up!"
I loved the knife. Loved it. Please don't hurt me. Oh Jesus.
First off….Great Blog….!
I won’t attempt an
objective review. My knife is in it….LOL

I loved the movie.
It was made by hard driving people about a hardened character. who refuses to ignore the darker side of realitys we all face in today’s world .
He has perfected the job of human trash removal .
The word RELENTLESS (Websters Dictionary defines the term)
re-lent-less; Unmoved by love or pity: Unceasing, as without mercy. Fits this guy to a T.
Some people can’t stomach the truth that this character illustrates so well.
Frank Castle is doing a job……he’s doing it because a million
others who ‘s job it really is …are to soft, fat, corrupt , scared
or lazy to do Justice.
Frank does it without a mask or a cape, he says little about it because deep inside it hurts him to know that this is the
only answer to a problem. Unfettered, the corrupt dish out untold human misery.
Frank is the sin eater, the True Dark Knight.
Unlike Batman, Superman, Spiderman and the rest of the comic crew, Frank Castle is a modern day Wyatt Earp.
He promptly and effectively answers the call in the order received.
When the smoke clears in the real human experience…..one comment remains… even though coined by a real life villain who’s idea of right was on Jigsaw’s side of the fence……. “Justice comes from
the barrel of a gun".
It’s HARD, FAST and BRUTAL….but….TRUE.
Could the movie have been better………of course, and Micky Mouse could have been better too.
I think some exceptionally vehement anti Punisher War Zone Movie reviews….are based on internal Cat Fighting in the movie business,
and let’s face it….Frank Castle is NOT Politically Correct.
Thanks to Ray Stevenson, Lexi Alexander, Jon Barton and all for this Great Movie. 12/10/2008 12:40 PM

"Time is not a concept. It is a word. And like any word, it can be manipulated according to one's subjective state. Just like quantum mechanics and relativity are unified in that they require perception to create reality, every passing trice can be toiled at one's will-or against one's will." →
”..if I’m racist then so is Sofia Coppola. And more importantly I’d like to talk about the philosophy of “Dragons: Lexicon Triumvirate," which tells a story about cyborg dragons fighting in the Middle Ages. And in this realm, evolution has worked in a more logical way, even though it’s in a fantasy setting which makes it logical that dragons are more superior than humans, in that they have intelligence and are larger and they can…"[Wired’s ToM]
